OF JOY!!!!!!!!!
For those of you that know me, you know I've been dealing with an annoying leg injury since the end of last June. Prior to that, I was competing (and I use the word "competing" lightly, lol) in half-marathons and triathlons. I had recently completed St. Anthony's olympic distance triathlon - my hugest goal so far, just prior to my injury. This injury has left me unable to bike or run for MONTHS - and to tell you the truth, it's made me a bit crabby. I went to physical therapy - no help - I rested - no help - went to 3 docs - no help. Then I decided to "give in" and stop running and went to core conditioning class at the gym instead. That also turned out to be a mistake as the lunges we were doing in class were only making the problem worse!
OK OK OK. I FINALLY threw my hands up and STOPPED RUNNING AND WORKING OUT ALL TOGETHER FOR A MONTH. It was shear torture. But I think it worked. It only took 10 months for my stubbornness to wear thin.
On Tuesday, I walked/jogged for 3.5 miles. On Wednesday I walked/ran 3 miles - and running was at least 2 miles of that. Then last night to top it off, I took my bike out for the first time in 6 months. I had a great ride. Did 13 miles in under an hour - pretty good since that counts red lights and traffic and not being on the thing for months! Dare I dream that I could enter a sprint distance triathlon this summer????????? I'm not sure I'll ever get back to the 13.2 mile running distance, but I would really love to. I'm going to stay at these shorter distances for a while and get my strength back in my legs and see how it all goes. I'm just so happy I could BURST though!!!
I am posting a couple of pictures from St. Anthony's for inspiration...these were taken last April.
